Kurt Cobain's Death: Suicide or Murder?

Kurt Donald Cobain (February 20, 1967 – April 5, 1994) was an American singer, songwriter, and musician, best known as the guitarist and frontman of the rock band Nirvana. An icon of Generation X, he is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the history of alternative music.

Born in Aberdeen, Washington, Cobain formed Nirvana with Krist Novoselic and Aaron Burckhard in 1987, helping to shape the Seattle music scene that would become synonymous with grunge. After signing with DGC Records, Nirvana achieved worldwide fame with "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from their critically acclaimed second album, Nevermind (1991).

After the success of Nevermind, Nirvana was recognized as "the flagship band" of Generation X, with Kurt Cobain seen as "the spokesman of a generation." However, Cobain resented this label, feeling that his message and artistic vision were often misunderstood by the public, who focused more on his personal struggles than his music. In the final years of his life, he battled heroin addiction and ongoing health issues, including depression. The pressures of fame and his marriage to musician Courtney Love added to his challenges. Tragically, on April 8, 1994, Cobain was found dead at his home in Seattle at the age of 27. There are a lot of theories about his death among them especially interesting are theories that he didn’t commit suicide and instead he was killed. I will try to analyze the event last day of his life from an astrological point of view. Further you can see his natal chart.

First, what caught my eye are Moon in Cancer, two planets are in an exaltation :Jupiter in Cancer and Venus in Pisces.  Mars in Scorpio (own sign) and 4 planets in Pieces. This is an exceptional chart of pearson with intense emotions and feelings. From the other side he was most likely an emotionally vulnerable person with deep feelings and emotions.

Here you can see the strengths os planets in his natal chart.

Moon 19

Saturn 15

Venus 25

Mars 23

I guess that his extreme sensitivity, intuition, and fantasy often put him into  a parallel world, Nirvana. He was happy in Nirvana, he created his music there. His Sun is in a 6 house- means his creativity, his art was in service to people. He felt himself as a servant. His work was an expression of his soul, his internal pain which actually never stopped. That’s why his songs were so close to many people . Why so many people were grieving his death like the death of a very close friend.

Venus in 7 house; house of partnership marriage  is a conjunction with Saturn gives us a partner who is very strict, tries to limit his sense of liberty and freedom and be dominant in their relationship.

He was prone to depression - Pluto in 12 house in sextile to Moon. Another theme of Pluto into 12 house - powerful secret enemies. So this is very important to keep in mind this aspect of Pluto.  Especially interesting to pay an attention to Sun in square Neptune which can explain his addiction to drugs. Thi was  probably a way to escape his everyday reality, to calm dowm his depression and move to nirvana.

He had a turbulent relationship with his parents

When Cobain was nine years old, his parents divorced. He later said that the divorce had a profound effect on his life, while his mother noted that his personality changed dramatically; Cobain became defiant and withdrawn. In a 1993 interview, he elaborated:

“I remember feeling ashamed, for some reason. I was ashamed of my parents. I couldn't face some of my friends at school anymore, because I desperately wanted to have the classic, you know, typical family. Mother, father. I wanted that security, so I resented my parents for quite a few years because of that”.

According to memoirs of his close friends, his favorite person was his grandfather. They spent a lot of time together and loved fishing together.

In his chart  Mercury locates in Pisces what makes him a very sensitive, creative, kind, easy adaptable, very a rtistic, but naive, Intuitive, warm, and caring personality. But on the other side Mercury in Piece is in a position of detriment and fall which brings into his personality inability at some point to make his own decisions.

Next let’s have a look at the chart on a day of his death.

This is the only one chart I consider to be reliable in analyzing  the circumstances of his death.  In “forensic astrology” the chart usually calculate on the day of event and using or time of “last seen chart” which means - last picture on the person on security cameras CCTV or 911 call. In the case of Kurt Cobain this is the time when a police officer had got a call. It was on April 8, 1994 at 8:56 AM Seattle, Washington. Rising sign is  Gemini, Mercury is describing a victim.

Mercury in Pisces is in position of fall and detriment. It shows us that the victim can't fight to full capacity or get out of the situation.  Interestingly, that Mercury i 29”19 Pieces conjuncts a fixed star Scheat (29”22 Pic) which brings imprisonment, murder, suicide and extreme misfortune in life. Moon also is a co-ruler of victims.   As you may see, Moon conjuncts Mercury and makes a sextile to Uranus and Neptune.  So everything that had happened to Kurt was absolutely unexpected to him and quick. Moon conjuncts Saturn shows that he was absolutely limited in his actions and unable to defend himself. Moon is in a trine to Pluto (death). This shows that he was in jeopardy and didn't bode well. It shows his immediate fate. The trine between Moon and Jupiter (Perpetrator) shows us that they (Cobain and his perpetrator) come to the Greenhouse together. Perpetrator usually describes with the ruler of 7 house.

The perpetrator was described as Jpiterian person because Sagittarius is on a cup of the 7 house . As you can see on the chart, Jupiter is sitting in a 6 house. 6 house is a house of our servants, people who work with us. The Sixth house describes a number of relationships, but they all have in common is an imbalance of power. It shows us a motive - issues in relationship with his co-workers, or, in his case, members of his group.

Cobain’s relationship with Nirvana at that time was just as rocky. In fact, Love told MTV that Cobain said to her in the weeks after Rome: "I hate it. I can't play with them anymore." She added that he only wanted to work with Michael Stipe of R.E.M.

"In the last few weeks, I was talking to Kurt a lot," Stipe said in a statement. "We had a musical project in the works, but nothing was recorded."

So I guess the perpetrator was a person close to Kurt, whom he trusted and who could easily come to his house or apartment. From the other side, if we turn on the chart, then 7 house will be the first house and 6 house will be the 12 - house of sore and secret enemies. Let’s try to look at his appearance. Sagittarius people usually have well-proportioned bodies, can be tall or overweight, strong and well set, brown hair, in some cases person can be

bald. Possible a little overweight, represents a person tall of stature wide, of a brown muddy complexion, an oval visage, high forehead, fair grey eyes, light brown hair, a handsome body, large belly, well-proportioned legs, long feet, and a sober well-spoken, well-conditioned person.

The ruler of suspect conjuncts following fixed stars which describe his or her personality:

12”16 Sco Alphecca: honors, dignity, literate, brilliant, poetic, scandals, betrayal in love, sorrow through children; fortunate, on the negative side, it subjects the native to scandals, underhanded dealings, back biting, tendency to being a loner and being dishonoured.

The 8 House (house which in this case is associated with the estate of deceased person, the cause of death, its quality and nature, the wills, legacies, and etc.) cups is in Capricorn. Capricorn in astrology usually associated with bones and veins. It is a very symbolic because as well known that Kurt  was overdosed and shot into his face.

The 4 house is the end of the matter, grave,  is in Leo conjuncts the fixed star Giansar - penetrating and analytical mind, travel, many friends, ingenuity and valor, but danger of robbery and accidental poisonings, in Kabbalists it is associated with the Hebrew letter Mem and 13 Tarot Trump “Death”.

to

From the very beginning it was not clear if Kurt killed himself or he was murdered.

Let’s look at evidences of his possible murder.

The Crime Scene of Kurt Cobain

Elliot Turner And Josiah Meidl in their paper “The Crime Scene of Kurt Cobain”

made some interesting conclusions about Cobain’s suicide. I found it very interesting and want to share their thoughts with you.

According to The toxicology report from the autopsy shows a heroin blood level of .125 milligrams per liter, which is three times the amount to be considered lethal. But even with that amount of incapacitating heroin in his bloodstream the Seattle PD claims he still had time to roll back down his sleeve, put the heroin kit in order, pick up and position the shotgun, then pull the trigger. Now one could argue that he shot himself before he was incapacitated from the heroin. Dr Cyril H. Wecht - President of the American Academy of Forensic Science brings up an interesting point “Why would he (Kurt) then shoot himself before the drug has time to take effect” he then goes on to say “I cannot think of a case in which I have had someone inject himself with a large amount of heroin and then proceed to kill himself...” All these questions could be answered if the Seattle coroner's office would make public the autopsy report which somehow they didn’t legally have to make public.

.

“Seattle police reports indicate that Kurt Cobain was found with a shotgun upside down, with his left hand around the barrel in a vice-like grip known as a cadaveric spasm, is a form of muscular stiffening that only occurs in death. This occurrence is indispensable to forensic investigation, as it clearly shows the precise orientation of the deceased at the EXACT moment of death...” as Tom Grant states. He then goes on to say “Now this all seems straightforward until you take into account that the shotgun shell was found to Cobain’s LEFT side, opposite of where one would expect to find a shell, on his right side...” But of course Seattle PD has an explanation for this as well, they claim that the gun was fired right side up; but then flipped, COMPLETELY disregarding the legitimacy of the cadaveric spasm. And that the only way that that would make sense would be if his wrist twisted at an impossible rate which then caused the shotgun to be flipped upside down. As a people who have shot shotguns we can say that when that shell gets ejected it really flies, so the only explanation we can think up is someone or some kind of disruption was to Cobain's right causing the shotgun shell to ricochet and land on his left side.

The most relevant piece of evidence towards the ruling of a suicide would have to be the note. Norm Stamper, Chief of police at the time of the investigation says “The fact that the handwriting looks to my untrained eye, different at the bottom of that note than it does during the body certainly does suggest that putting that note in the hands of a trained documents examiner or someone who really understands a lot more than we do as cops...” Carole Chaski a forensic linguist gives her thoughts on the note “one of the perhaps surprising characteristics of this note is that the largest section of the note talks so much about his relationship to music, and it's only the very small part, the last few lines that actually talk about his relationship to his family. But there's another linguistically interesting thing about the second to, and final four lines of the note, and that is that; that is what most of us would consider a stereotypical suicide note...”. In my personal opinion, the note looks and sounds phony and according to the experts, and I guess not the only ones.

Unreliable Detective

In addition to the evidence found at the crime scene Norman Stamper, Seattle PD Chief of Police says “Detective Cameron (Sgt. Donald Cameron lead detective on the Cobain case) resigned when he had learned that I was planning to fire him. He had colluded with one of his own detectives to replant evidence that had been stolen by a homicide detective at a homicide scene.” Later det. Chief Norm Stamper suggests Kurt Cobain may not have died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in April 1994, as most of Cobain’s followers believed.

"If we didn't get it right the first time, we damn well better get it right the second time," Stamper says. "And I would tell you right now, if I were the chief of police I would reopen this investigation."

Needless to say his wife, Cortney Love cremated his body and on April 10,1994 she and Chris Novoselic held a vigil with his fans.

Kurt Cobain had a net worth of $50 million at the time of his death. Private investigator Grant spoke to Love's attorney, Rosemary Carroll, at her office on April 13, 1994. He said she pressed him to investigate Cobain's death, and that Cobain was not suicidal. Carroll also claims that Cobain had asked her to draw up a will excluding Love because he was planning to file for divorce. Grant said this was the motive for Cobain's death, thus alleging he had been murdered by Love. Carroll also provided Grant with a handwriting practice note that she found in Love's backpack that was left at her home. It has been suggested[by whom?] that the handwriting on this practice note is markedly similar to the handwriting found on the last four lines of Cobain's suicide note.

Filmmaker Nick Broomfield, deciding to investigate the theories himself, brought a film crew to visit a number of people associated with both Cobain and Love, including Love's estranged father, Cobain's aunt, and one of the couples' former nannies. Broomfield also spoke to The Mentors' bandleader Eldon "El Duce" Hoke, who claimed that Love had offered him $50,000 to kill Cobain. Although Hoke claimed that he knew who killed Cobain, he did not mention a name and offered no evidence to support his assertion. However, he mentioned speaking to someone called "Allen" (of the band Kill Allen Wrench), before quickly interjecting, "I mean, my friend", then laughing, "I'll let the FBI catch him." According to Mentors' bass player Steve Broy, the whole story was concocted to sell supermarket tabloids. Broomfield incidentally captured Hoke's final interview, as he died days later when he was struck by a train in the middle of the night.

Journalists Ian Halperin and Max Wallace followed a similar path and attempted to investigate the murder theory themselves. Based on evidence gathered in interviews, Halperin and Wallace believed that Cobain wanted to divorce Love near the time of his death, and that she was looking for "a vicious divorce lawyer" to help crush a prenuptial agreement she'd reportedly signed that would keep their respective fortunes separate in the event of divorce They also made the case that because Nikolas Hartshorne (the coroner in Cobain's case) was an admitted friend of Love's, that this was a conflict of interest. Their initial book, Who Killed Kurt Cobain?, was released in 1999, and drew a similar conclusion to Broomfield's film: while there wasn't enough evidence to conclusively prove foul play, there was more than enough to demand that the case be reopened.

Several of Cobain's friends and even members of his own family also believe Cobain was murdered. Hank Harrison, Courtney Love's father, has shared his belief that Love had a motive, there is evidence of foul play, and the case should be re-opened.[40] Cobain's grandfather, Leland Cobain, also publicly stated that he believed Cobain was murdered.

In August 2005, Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon was asked about Cobain's death in an interview for Uncut Magazine. When asked what she thought to be Cobain's motive in committing suicide, Gordon replied: "I don't even know that he killed himself. There are people close to him who don't think that he did ..." When asked if she thought someone else had killed him, Gordon answered, "I do, yes."

I would like to finish with some quotes by Kurt Cobain. I think these are the best characteristics of him.

“I’d rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.”

“We have no right to express an opinion until we know all of the answers.”

“Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are.”

“It’s better to burn out than fade away.”

“There are a lot of things I wish I would have done, instead of just sitting around and complaining about having a boring life.”

“They laugh at me because I’m different; I laugh at them because they’re all the same”.

He died yet too young.
